J.P. Garcia is a cinematographer based in London and is a member of the Brazilian Society of Cinematographers A.B.C.
I started out in Brazilian ad agencies as an art director, drawing up films I would never get to shoot. So I left, picked up a camera, and spent years learning how to light one. Then the work brought me straight back to commercials, this time on the other side of the lens, which I still find funny.
Since then I have shot commercials for Nike, Fiat, Meta, Renault, EA Sports, Adidas, Aston Martin and KIA. The work has picked up British Arrows nominations and a Silver for EA Sports FIFA 23, along with honours at Cannes, D&AD, The One Show and El Ojo. I shoot narrative too: Chapéu de Bico and Thursday Night were both nominated for Best Cinematography by the ABC, and Thursday Night, directed by Gonçalo Almeida, went on to Sundance.
I fly radio controlled planes whenever I can. It is the one thing I build, break and rebuild with nobody watching.
